Wine Tasting with Scottish Oatcake and Chocolate Brownie Masterclass

Many visitors on our tours and tastings have appreciated the quality of the oatcakes and
chocolate brownies served as nibbles to accompany the wine. Some have even suggested that
we should be selling these products. However making these products at scale is beyond the
resources of our small family business so the idea of teaching visitors how to make them for
themselves was born.

The proposed format is as follows:

On arrival, guests will taste our sparkling Solaris and get a brief introduction to the family and
the vineyard. This will be followed by an explanation of the principals involved and a practical
demonstration of the oatcake process by a member of the family, scaled down for practicalities
(around 16 cakes). Guests will then don a branded Helme Edge Vineyard apron and work in
pairs following the provided recipe for themselves under the guidance of a family member,
before placing their tray of oatcakes in the oven. While waiting for the cakes to cook a glass of
our still Solaris will be served along with an oatcake (made earlier) and cheese. After cooking for
around 20 minutes, the oatcakes will be set aside to cool before being boxed up to take away.
Recipe instructions for making the cakes on a reasonable domestic scale, ie around 40 cakes,
will be provided.

The process for making chocolate brownies is a simpler single bowl mix. The main skill is in
the choice of ingredients. This will be demonstrated by a family member and the recipe
provided. The cooking stage is relatively long and the fresh brownies have to be conditioned in
the fridge overnight before being firm enough to cut up. Guests will then taste a sample of
chocolate brownie made earlier along with a glass of our rosé wine. Samples will be available to
take away along with the oatcakes.

Guest will depart with recipes for both products as well as a box containing oatcakes and
chocolate brownies!
